They don’t expose their ripped muscles and they don’t have exceptional talking skills for variety programs. Instead of making a character aimed for the fandom, they chose to spend this time in their practice room. Infinite are different from the idols made strategically by big agencies; we don’t really know if Infinite’s virtue is this simple honesty. It was a bit slow, but now, the hottest trendy-dols in South Korea are undoubtedly Infinite.
Reporter: Because Sunggyu had to record the guide for , he couldn’t do the interview and left first.
Woohyun: I can reply exactly as our Leader would! I’ll do it for him.
Reporter: Haha, really? Well, alright. You can even criticize your leader!
Woohyun: Ah, there’s not much to criticize. Sunggyu talks very well, he organizes things very neatly for us as well; he fully performs his duties as a leader.
Hoya: *Chuckles*. Well, he does have a weak point, it’s his lisp!
Woohyun: He also has a lot of lacking points, but truthfully, the fact that we can get along well like brothers even when we’re quarrelling is largely credited to Sunggyu hyung.
Hoya: That’s right! Even though his pronunciation is a bit problematic.
Reporter: Haha. Anyway, Dongwoo, aren’t you tired? Singing and dancing like this all along?
Dongwoo: Ah, was I too noisy?
Reporter: No! It’s just that your stamina’s amazing.
Dongwoo: I’m not that strong though. And to us, singing along to songs we like are resting times.
Reporter: I thought you were only a rapper, but when I saw you lately on the cable TV channel Mnet doing a solo, I was totally surprised. You really did well! I think you should increase your singing part….
Dongwoo: Hehe. Thank you. I messed up two lines of the lyrics though. I, of course, sing well too, but until now, my rap is still better.
Reporter: All the staffs are praising Dongwoo saying he’s kind?
Even when I’m next to you, it seems that your positive energy is communicative! Ah, Hoya, you were at the production report conference of tvN’s drama . You just went and left right?
Hoya: Ah, you saw it? Yes, I was there for a very short time! It must’ve been because I couldn’t talk, they didn’t ask me much questions. *sobs*.
Reporter: Anyway, these days you’re doing everything so well even as an idol!
Hoya: I don’t know if I’m doing well yet, I’m doing my best, but I think I have to watch a bit more.
Reporter: L and Sungyeol as well, it seems that most of Infinite’s members have experience in acting. Was acting originally your dream?
Hoya: When I was young, I dreamt of being an action film actor. While watching martial arts movies, I wanted to become a cool action film actor, but as I grew up, I got interested in dancing and I naturally started my trainee life, forgetting my dream of being an actor, and instead focusing on being a singer. But, I still have this dream of being an actor in my heart.
Woohyun: I was in a musical, and Sungjongie was in a program for children screaming ‘lemon candy’ (All laughing), so the members are all acting little by little. Especially Sungyeol, who acted since his trainee days, so he’s very professional. Of course, he’s not a movie actor yet. *chuckles*
By the way, aren’t you teasing your maknae too much?
Woohyun: Of course, we’re teasing our maknae. We tease him until he almost reaches his limit.
Reporter: It’s pitiful for Sungjong.
Woohyun: It’s because we really like playing jokes.
Hoya: I think we keep on poking fun at him because Sungjong’s reactions are good. But we aren’t only teasing Sungjong, we tease all the members and change turns every week. Who was it this week? Was it Dongwoo hyung?
Dongwoo: They did a hidden camera on me and I even cried.
Hoya: I think it’s going to be Woohyunnie hyung’s turn soon? No, it’s going to be Woohyunnie hyung at about the middle of August.
Reporter: You play jokes, but are you even making some kind of program?
Dongwoo: Ah, of course we do! If you watch our broadcasts in August, it might be hard to see Woohyun hyung talk. He’s going to be to be totally quiet, and he will stay still?
Reporter: Right now, you’re obviously the best trendy-dols in fact and in name, but you were quite the slow type before gaining popularity and success, right? There were a lot of idols who debuted at the same time as you, have you ever been impatient and upset?
Woohyun: Not at all! We really always practiced joyfully. At that time and now, too. Because we always wanted to be together and to do better.
Dongwoo: We weren’t obsessed about rankings and popularity; we just worked hard. And really enjoyed it. But we can only be happy we got such good results, of course.
Reporter: What can you do living as an idol in South Korea?
Right now, you’re the heroes of this era called Idol Golden Age but, on the other hand, I think you might go through a lot of hardships since your every move can be exposed and you have overpacked schedules.
Woohyun: Aren’t there pros and cons to everything? I don’t really know if it’s because it’s the dream we chose by ourselves or because we want to accomplish this dream, but until now, we’ve been fine. I think it’s because we can still handle this amount of disadvantage. If we couldn’t manage these disadvantages and became lethargic, it’s even possible that we wouldn’t be able to establish a foothold for us to go even higher. That’s why we give our best to overcome these disadvantages.
Reporter: If you had to choose the hardest thing you have to cope with?
Hoya: Truthfully, not having a private life is really hard.
Dongwoo: Because even when we’re not promoting on broadcasts, we don’t have any privacy.
Woohyun: Even when we just go out in the street, they take pictures and upload it online. So we became more cautious.
Reporter: Does even Infinite have these so-called ‘Sasaeng fans’? [T/N: Sasaeng fans are fans invading their privacy]
Hoya: Most of the idols have to live with the sasaeng fans. This might be the biggest stress of an idol.
Dongwoo: Because we recognize them these days, they control themselves a lot.
Hoya: Isn’t there this expression? If you can’t avoid it, enjoy it!
All shocked!
Reporter: You’re in your prime, you don’t have girlfriends? Not even a member you’re close with among idols?
Hoya: Because we’re all very shy.
Woohyun: I almost never engaged in a conversation first.
Dongwoo: I think I can engage in a conversation comfortably, but I’m not the type to directly approach people.
Woohyun: We’re the kind to only stay between us. Honestly, it’s the most comfortable and fun when we’re amongst ourselves.
Reporter: But still, you’re at the age to have a girlfriend!
Woohyun: Of course we’re at a period when we’re full of young blood(!) but, we’re comforting ourselves with the fans’ love.
Hoya: Honestly, because we’re so busy, we don’t even have the time to think about meeting a girlfriend. Instead, we have to get this kind of questions to think for a moment ‘Ah, of course, we’re at this age. Should I date too?’, but that’s it.
Woohyun: Moreover, the reason why we can’t get girlfriends is that our company’s CEO still doesn’t have a girlfriend. We can’t be ill-mannered and find girlfriends first.
Hoya: Of course! Because we’re in the well-mannered country of the East!
All shocked!
Reporter: Alright, I got it. Lastly, tell us what your personal dreams and plans are as an individual, not as an Infinite member.
Woohyun: Ah, our personal plans and dreams? How? The seven members all have the same dream.
Reporter: You’re saying that Infinite’s dream is the members’ personal dream? Ayy~
Isn’t this an answer made up for the interview?
Dongwoo: Hahaha. It’s not. Our dream really is to make music together until we die. That’s what we usually talk about when we gather together! We’re not saying this only because of the interview; it’s sincere. Even without knowing anything else, and we only have teamwork, it’s the best.
Hoya: No matter how popular we get, how successful we get, we think that if we separate, it’s the end. Always being together is our dream and plan.
Woohyun: Staying together as the seven of us while doing music and growing up, and remaining as the national group like GOD seniors, that’s our goal!
Infinite’s debut song didn’t attract the attention of the fangirls first, but the music critics’. A well-made music with a consistent style, synchronized choreography; they first got the nickname of group with warm singing skills. They didn’t have a huge hit song, nor did they appear often on TV. Infinite’s golden age started after over a year with ‘Be Mine’. They established themselves in fact and in name as the best trendy-dols thanks to their solid duration. With nothing else than ‘skills’, Infinite stood out in the idols’ fierce competition and that’s how we can now satisfyingly look at their success.
